At some point, I have enough of everything. Participating life - social calls, work, conversations with people who don't change and those who have drifted away, the daily routine, confusion. Yes, it was an exhausting weekend in my home town. And when I can't take it any more, when I must smash something with a bang or hide my head in arms with a whimper, I put on industrial music.

Tweaker released two albums: The Attraction To All Things Uncertain (2001) and 2 A. M. Wakeup Call (2004). What I hear, is not very far from Nine Inch Nails; seems less agressive though. Perhaps because the instrumental part of the material is considerably larger. Or because the guest vocalists (Robert Smith, my beloved David Sylvian and others) create different moods. It is, however, similarly sombre and melancholy. And I do love darkness of one's troubled mind.

The Comsat Angels are exactly what you might expect from me these days, meaning a yet-another-forgotten-post-punk-new-wave-eighties band. They played, especially on the first three albums, rather superb rock that could be placed in the same league with Joy Division or The Chameleons. Sleep No More (released 1981) is a bit rough and darker but gods, I adore "Our Secret". Fiction (1982) might as well be their best work; for me it can easily compete with The Chameleons' Script Of The Bridge or The Cure's Pornography.

I've been feeling rather lost recently: I don't really know what's next. It seems I must make some decisions concerning my writing and, at this point, I could even say that advice is always welcome.

Anyway and whatever. There are more interesting things in the universe. Have you noticed Greg Dulli's latest project, The Gutter Twins? He and Mark Lanegan seem to have developed a rather vigorous musical relationship. I say, darker than The Twilight Singers but don't we all grow up?

Re-discovering my own shelves, I here present a Swedish "progressive rock" project. Clearly, I despise the term but this is how Paatos is being described. For me it's more trip-hopey (must be the female vocals) and deliciously melancholy. Perfect just before spring. If your curiosity has been piqued:

Hey, guys. I know I'm a jerk at times and I apologise to those who felt hurt by my yesterday's emo.

I need a favour.

Just when I thought I was getting rather bored with the Indian cinematography, I discovered there was more to it than Bollywood. It has always been too easy to seduce me with music and Tamil songs are clever creatures. I'm enchanted with the rhythm of the language, sometimes energetic, making me feel alive, sometimes hypnotic.
one. Hymn-like and dramatic. I have no idea what Rahman is singing about here but I'm sure it's rather important.

And because we all need to laugh and relax, I recommend watching a video from a Tamil movie Ghajini. I actually think choreography is really good in this one. And the faces that the two main characters make? Priceless!

I've been quiet lately, avoiding MSN, not commenting other people's entries... I apologise for that. I need to rethink several things concerning friendship: my relatoionships with people are failing and I want to figure out why. Perhaps I'm past this stage of life when friends are most important. Perhaps it's time to swim alone. I'll be back some time in the future (in case you missed me - which I doubt).

Anyway, here's something for curious souls:
Peter Murphy, an enigmatic and charismatic leader of Bauhaus (the fathers of goth rock), has been following a very interesing path on his own. His solo albums are a mixture of rock, goth, pop, electronica and eastern inspirations. Some of his songs were catchy (see Cuts You Up with its oh-so-gothic video and the proof that Peter Murphy has the most amazing cheekbones on the planet), other - weird, but his music is rarely cheerful and this album is no exception.
I honestly warn you: it isn't easy to listen. The songs are long, trance-like, almost never-ending. They are also very likely to take you anywhere but here. Dust is a moonless night journey through the desert; mind tends to wander and you don't even notice when. Recorded partly in Istanbul with a significant input from Turkish musicians, it practically screams the Middle East. I love the violin here.

PETER MURPHY - DUST (2002)

Oh, I have a new layout. It's painfully simple and I couldn't decide whether I liked it more in black or yellow but the gloomy weather chose for me. The header and default icon are from Rang De Basanti, which won a zillion prizes in Indian "Oscars" (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Music, Best Cinematography, etc.) and I love-hate this film to pieces. Is anyone interested in music from it? I could upload it for you. Here's a small teaser.

Fanaa means "destruction". I have this exam on Tuesday. I have been trying to study, to revive my long-forgotten knowledge of American literature - mostly unsuccessfully. Hence, I am awaitng my fanaa on Tuesday.

Anyway. The film is a pretty mainstream romance with not entirely realistic plot but superb performance from both main actors (Kajol and Aamir Khan) and really charming music.

Now, back to postmodernism.

Have a wonderful day, you amazing girl. You're one of the best friends I've ever had.

It was white outside. Fog as thick as curled milk was especially impressive from the fourth floor window. The world just ceased to be.

It was white. White means winter. Winter means Christmas (among other things).

STEP ONE

- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fun ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real possible things, make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post so that the holiday joy will spread.

STEP TWO

- Surf around your friends list (or friend's friends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
- Once a wish has been granted, it will be crossed off my list.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
