The Comsat Angels are exactly what you might expect from me these days, meaning a yet-another-forgotten-post-punk-new-wave-eighties band. They played, especially on the first three albums, rather superb rock that could be placed in the same league with Joy Division or The Chameleons. Sleep No More (released 1981) is a bit rough and darker but gods, I adore "Our Secret". Fiction (1982) might as well be their best work; for me it can easily compete with The Chameleons' Script Of The Bridge or The Cure's Pornography.

The following are reasons why I love Life On Mars so much: John Simm, time travel, people not trying to speak RP, amazing soundtrack, Hunt, few female characters, the 1970s, the Britishness of it all.

In the last few days at least three people told me I'd lost weight and one of them was Giles a man. I am actually pretty excited about losing even more: since I am not, apparently, a gifted writer nor a fighter for moral values in books and films, I figured I could concentrate on my appearance and become the vainest LJ user in Poland.

three.
Meanwhile, I'm reading The Crimson Petal And White by Michael Faber, feeling guilty about enjoying it so much. For the Saints Of Quality Literature I can offer this: I sort of stole a Flaubert novel from a cafe full of second-hand books.
